General
Can we bring coolers, chairs, and other personal belongings?
Yes Please do! We want you to have the best day possible. Please bring whatever you would like to make your day better. It’s your boat! We also have coolers, snorkel gear and dry bags available for rent, as well as other boat and beach day essentials for sale in our shop!
Are we able to cancel if the conditions do not allow us to go where we want?
We cannot control the sea conditions. We can typically predict what the sea conditions will be like 2-3 days outs. We make the decision each morning on which beaches we allow the boats to go. We are happy to reschedule you or cancel your reservation due to weather conditions.
Can we hire a Captain or Guide?
If you’re unsure about operating the vessel on your own or just want someone to show you around, we can assist in finding a captain or tour guide to join you. You’ll still be in charge, but they can help navigate, tie the lines, and handle the details. If you’re planning to enjoy a few drinks, having a backup captain is always a great idea! While we’re happy to help with arrangements, please note that captain availability is not guaranteed.
Can we go to the British Virgin Islands?
No we do not allow our boat rentals to go to the BVI.
If interested in getting to the BVI, please see our Captained Charters for options.
What happens if we damage the vessel?
Things happen, we understand. When renting our boats you are taking sole responsibility for the vessel and the liability of you and your passengers. We offer a damage insurance policy for you to purchase with your rental to assist with any serious/costly damage but you are responsible for any and all damage caused while the vessel is in your care.
Is alcohol allowed on the boat?
Trust us, we like to have a good time too! Alcohol is allowed on the boat but the driver of the boat is strictly prohibited from operating a vessel over the legal limit of alcohol of 0.08%. We take this very seriously and if the captain of the boat at all appears to be over the limit, we hold the right to require a breathalyzer test when you return. If the captain refuses to test or fails the test, we are required by law to call the US Coast Guard and local authorities.
How much experience is required?
We understand that every boat is a little different and we will go over the vessel with you prior to your departure. But… We are NOT a boat driving school. We require you to know the basics of operating a motor vessel and have experience in a similar sized vessel. We expect you to arrive confident and comfortable navigating our boats in a safe manner in the Virgin Islands waters. If during your orientation our staff feels uncomfortable in your ability to operate the vessel on your own, we hold the right to cancel your reservation.
Dinghys
Can we go anywhere we want?
The Dinghy is limited to the North Shore of St. John from Cruz Bay to Waterlemon Cay. Weather conditions may limit you to certain beaches depending on the wind and swell. If you are wanting to go somewhere specific, please contact us a few days prior and we can let you know what the sea condition predictions look like. We are happy to reschedule you if possible.
How fast are the Dinghys? Is there a limit?
The Dinghy will go faster than you will want to go! They have plenty of power to get up on plane and have plenty of speed. We will reiterate this during your orientation but you must use extreme caution when operating these vessels as they have the ability to go very fast.
Zodiacs & Medline
Can we go anywhere we want?
Yes. Well, Kinda. Every destination is 100% weather (sea conditions) dependent. If the sea conditions are good then we are much more flexible on where you can go. We can generally predict the sea conditions 3-4 days out. Regardless, we can most always make the most of the day and conditions given. Before you depart, you and our staff will plan out an itinerary for your day and it is agreed upon by both parties that you will stick to that itinerary.
How fast are the Zodiacs & Medline? Is there a limit?
Our Zodiacs & Medline have plenty of power and speed. Even though our Zodiacs will exceed speeds of over 50MPH we STRONGLY enforce a 25MPH speed limit. Each vessel is equipped with a speed/location tracking device for your safety.
